If you have been injured in an automobile accident, there are many things to think of. First and foremost, you should be sure to get the medical care you need and start on the road to recovery. Paying for the right medical care, however, can be confusing. In many auto accident cases, multiple policies of insurance could apply. All auto insurance policies sold in the State of Maine, for example, are required to provide at least $1,000.00 in “medical payments” coverage. Health insurance policies also apply to medical care, regardless of whether the care is needed as a result of an auto crash, illness, or some other cause. Getting insurance companies to pay benefits, however, even when there should be no question about coverage, can be difficult, adding to stresses caused by disruption of family and home life.
If injuries are serious enough to cause prolonged work absence, then concerns may arise over disability insurance benefits or your lost wages. Renting a replacement vehicle while repairs are completed can also be a nuisance. Repairs to your car require still more of your attention, and it all comes at a time when you may be least able to cope. You will naturally want to discuss your concerns about the pain and disruption caused by the accident, as well as your concerns about which driver may have been at fault.
