Sonia BuckSonia Buck

Sonia Buck was born in Portland, Maine.  She received her B.A. in English and Business from the University of Southern Maine, cum laude, in 2002, and received her J.D. from the University of Maine School of Law, magna cum laude, in 2005. In law school, she was the Production Editor of the Maine Law Review, which published her case note entitled Church Liability for Clergy Sexual Abuse: Have Time and Events Overthrown Swanson v. Roman Catholic Bishop of Portland? Sonia also participated in the Duberstein National Bankruptcy Moot Court competition, for which she received the Gignoux Award for Excellence in Appellate Advocacy at her law school graduation.

Attorney Buck has also published a book for law students and legal professionals, Movie Therapy for Law Students, which surveys 35 courtroom dramas and comedies and discusses the substantive law raised in the movies.  You may also follow Sonia’s Movie Therapy for Law Students Facebook page by clicking HERE.

Her memberships include the Maine Bar Association, the Androscoggin County Bar Association, and the Maine Trial Lawyers Association. She was named as a New England Super Lawyers “Rising Star” for 2011-2015. Sonia has written several articles for American Bar Association publications.  Sonia is a Dedimus Justice.  She is an adjunct faculty member at Kaplan University, where she has taught business and paralegal courses and also serves on the Advisory Committee.  Sonia is a trained mediator and handles both court-sponsored and private mediations.  Having recently completed a 40-hour mediation training program, she has been added to several court mediation rosters, including Superior Court mediation and arbitration, family law cases, small claims, landlord-tenant matters, and foreclosure diversion mediation.  She is a member of the Maine Association of Mediators and was recently appointed to the roster for the Maine Real Estate Mediation Program.  She is also the President of the Board of Trustees for the Auburn Public Library.

Her practice areas include employment law and civil litigation, with a focus on commercial litigation, including mortgage foreclosures, mechanics lien actions, bond claims, and construction disputes.  She also handles unfair trade practice cases and other consumer matters.

She lives in Auburn with her husband, Charlie and their chocolate lab, Murphy. She enjoys spending quality time with family and friends. A Maine native, she particularly enjoys all that Maine has to offer during the beautiful summer months, including boating, beaching, and camping.
