Attorney Sonia Buck was born in Portland, Maine. Sonia received her B.A. in English and Business from the University of Southern Maine (cum laude) in 2002. She then earned her J.D. from the University of Maine School of Law (magna cum laude) in 2005. While in law school, she was the Production Editor of the Maine Law Review, which published her case note Church Liability for Clergy Sexual Abuse: Have Time and Events Overthrown Swanson v. Roman Catholic Bishop of Portland? Additionally, she participated in the Duberstein National Bankruptcy Moot Court competition and received the Gignoux Award for Excellence in Appellate Advocacy.
Her practice areas include employment law, business litigation, mortgage foreclosures, mechanics lien actions, bond claims, and construction disputes. Sonia also handles unfair trade practice cases and other consumer and civil matters.
MEDIATION AND ARBITRATION SERVICES
Sonia Buck is also a trained mediator and handles both court-sponsored and private mediation and arbitration services. Having recently completed a 40-hour mediation training program, she has been added to several court mediation rosters, including Superior Court mediation and arbitration, family law cases, small claims, landlord-tenant matters, and foreclosure diversion mediation. She is a board member of the Maine Association of Mediators.
Attorney Buck offers discounted hourly rates for local mediation services; her private mediation rates range from $100 – $150 per hour.
MEMBERSHIPS AND EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES
Sonia’s memberships include the Maine Bar Association, the Androscoggin County Bar Association, the Maine Association of Mediators, and Network LA. She is also a Dedimus Justice. Also, Sonia has been an adjunct faculty member at Kaplan University and served on the Advisory Committee for Kaplan’s paralegal program.
Sonia is also the President of the Board of Trustees for the Auburn Public Library.
Attorney Buck was named as a New England Super Lawyers “Rising Star” for the years 2011 through 2015.
In addition to several articles written for the American Bar Association and the National Business Institute, Attorney Buck has also published a book for law students and legal professionals, Movie Therapy for Law Students. Sonia lives in Auburn with her husband, Charlie and their chocolate lab, Murphy. She enjoys spending quality time with family and friends. A Maine native, she particularly enjoys all that Maine has to offer during the beautiful summer months, including boating, beaching, and camping.
